Mr Whitlock and Ms Heredi have just returned from the European Championships in Motherwell, Scotland.

After months of preparation, illness, injury and other unwanted distractions aside, with the ITF England national team, they were both present representing WMA, PUMA and their country they had sights set on gold.

The 4 day competition brought lots of highs and lows for the pair. We are particularly proud of Aniko who brought home a great medal haul consisting of-

Silver in individual female heavyweight sparring, silver in female power test, silver in female team sparring, bronze in team power test, and a token bronze as the 6th person in female team patterns. A massive well done Aniko from everyone at WMA!

Mr Whitlock competed in- team patterns, losing to the always strong team from Poland. Individual male -78kg sparring losing a close fight to Ludvig Saele from Norway. And finally in team sparring where we lost a nail biting quarter finals to current World Champions Ireland 10-9! It was a disappointing championships for Mr Whitlock, but lessons were learnt and he will be back stronger next year.

Overall the England team did very well, coming 8th out of 24 countries. We had 3 new individual European champions and most importantly- we came back with more medals than last year. The team is forever growing under the guidance of our fantastic coaching team, of which a big thank you goes to them from both of our athletes.

Now it is time to regroup and look to the next competition which will be the PUMA British championships, which a large contingent of our WMA students young and old(er) will be attending.

Finally a thank you to the tournament organisers, the masters, PUMA, and everyone that helped make this a great experience.
